The Comptroller General of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) recently announced the implementation of measures aimed at combating corruption within the agency. In a press statement, the Comptroller General emphasized the importance of maintaining integrity and transparency in the operations of the NIS.

The move comes as a response to growing concerns over reports of corruption and misconduct within the Immigration Service, leading to inefficiencies and tarnishing the agency's reputation. The Comptroller General stressed the need for a concerted effort to root out unethical practices and ensure that the NIS fulfills its mandate effectively.

One of the key measures being implemented is the establishment of an internal anti-corruption unit within the NIS, tasked with investigating reports of corruption, misconduct, and abuse of power. This unit will work closely with other law enforcement agencies to hold accountable those found engaging in corrupt practices.

Additionally, the Comptroller General stated that training programs on ethics and integrity will be introduced for NIS personnel at all levels to promote a culture of accountability and professionalism within the agency. The aim is to instill a sense of responsibility and dedication to service among staff members, thereby reducing the potential for corrupt behavior.

In his address, the Comptroller General acknowledged that eradicating corruption entirely is a challenging task but reiterated his commitment to ensuring that the NIS operates with the highest standards of honesty and integrity. He urged all employees to embrace the new measures and actively contribute to the fight against corruption within the Immigration Service.

The announcement of these anti-corruption initiatives signals a proactive approach by the NIS leadership to address systemic issues and promote a clean and efficient working environment. It is hoped that these measures will have a positive impact on improving service delivery, enhancing public trust, and upholding the values of the Nigerian Immigration Service.
