Civil rights activist and former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani has slammed former Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s commissioners for criticizing a recent State House of Assembly report on financial scandals involving El-Rufai.

The Guardian reported that Sani called these commissioners co-accomplices in looting Kaduna State's treasury and leaving it in massive debt. He urged the public to disregard the commissioners' statements, emphasizing the investigation's fairness and evidence-based findings.

He condemned the commissioners for shamelessly attacking an impartial probe that revealed extensive corruption during their tenure.

He noted that the scale of corruption uncovered by the Assembly's investigation was unprecedented in Kaduna State and Northern Nigeria. According to Sani, the former officials enriched themselves at the expense of the state's economy, which is now burdened with debt.

He challenged the commissioners to disclose their assets from 2015 and 2023 to reveal their financial misconduct. He accused them of transforming Kaduna into a haven for corruption and warned that ignoring the report could lead to unrest.

He called on Kaduna lawmakers to remain steadfast and resist any threats from those benefiting from the looting.

In his words, “I challenge all of them to make public the contents of the Code of Conduct forms they filled in 2015 and the ones they filled in 2023."

"For eight years, Kaduna was a haven for opacity, official larceny, financial thuggery, and fiscal banditry by fraudulent contractors, thieving consultants, and parasites in the Government House."

"People who cannot even be councillors in their states of origin came to Kaduna and looted the resources of our people."

“People who should be returning the money they stole and seeking forgiveness are today striving hard to smear an investigation that casts light on their actions.”
