Two members of gang that specialized in stealing, buying transformer cables land in police net

Today, Monday, April 29, 2024, the Niger State Police Command reported the arrest of two individuals belonging to a well-known gang that specialized in theft of transformer cables and subsequent resale.

The state police command disclosed the development on its Facebook page, providing the names of the gang members as Jibrin Dahiru, 26, and Buhari Umar, 22.

Jibrin was apprehended for his role in stealing transformer cables across various parts of the state, while Umar was identified as one of the purchasers of the stolen cables.

The arrests were made by officers from the Nasko Division of the command based on information provided by residents regarding the gang's illicit activities related to cable theft.

In a statement released by the state police command through its Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, it was revealed that during interrogation, Jibrin admitted to his involvement in cable theft and implicated an accomplice named Ibrahim, who is currently evading arrest.


Jibrin also implicated Buhari Umar as one of the individuals involved in receiving the stolen cables.

"Other receivers mentioned are Alhaji Bashiru, Abdulrahman and Shuaibu, all from Sokoto State and presently at large," the command added.

The command revealed that the two men have been moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further questioning. Following this, they are anticipated to face charges in court once the investigation is concluded.
