According to Punch News Nigerian artist Temilade Openiyi, known as Tems, won her fourth BET Award at the Peacock Theater in Downtown Los Angeles on Monday. She received the Dr. Bobby Jones Best Gospel/Inspirational Award for her 2023 song "Me & U," surpassing other notable artists like Kirk Franklin and CeCe Winans.
The BET Awards, created in 2001 by Black Entertainment Television, honor the achievements of Black entertainers and other underrepresented groups in various fields, including music, film, sports, and philanthropy.
In 2022, Tems won the BET Awards for Best International Act and Best Collaboration for Wizkid’s "Essence." In 2023, she won Best Collaboration for her song with Drake and Future, "Wait for U," which also received the same award at the 2022 BET Hip Hop Awards.
South African artist Tyla won the awards for Best New Artist and Best International Act at the same event.
