An Environmentalist and Human Rights Activist, Annkio Briggs has alleged that there is an ongoing resistance from the members of the state assembly against Governor Fubara's decisions. She advocated for a legal recourse to determine their legitimacy.

She stated that the insistence on legal resolution reflects concerns that the actions of these lawmakers may be deemed illegal by the law. She criticized the behavior of the lawmakers who had defected from their original party, only to later claim legitimacy upon their return. Such actions, she argued, do not align with legal standards as she expresses doubt over their credibility.

She said in an interview with Channels TV, "What the President made the governor to do are what Rivers people and some elders and leaders are objecting. The so-called state of Assembly members are opposing every single step taken by him (Fubara). And some of us are saying that the Court of Law should be the final call to justify whether these people are members of the Assembly or not.

If they are not then whatever they are doing is illegal. And it will only bring more problems to the state. And we are objecting to what these so-called lawmakers are doing. If you don't want to work with the governor, then you should not be in his cabinet. They resigned before, they should resign again. We have lawmakers that have left their original party and have gone to another party and they come back to claim that they are lawmakers, they are not lawmakers in the eyes of the law.''
