Presidential Snub: Wabara Alleges Obasanjo and Buhari Refused to Honor Him and Saraki with GCON

opera.com 2 days ago

Former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara, has made a shocking allegation that two former presidents, Olusegun Obasanjo and Muhammadu Buhari, deliberately withheld the prestigious title of Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON) from him and former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, respectively. Wabara claimed that this was a retaliatory move because they did not support their governments during their tenures in office.

In an interview with journalist Adesuwa Giwa-Osagie, Wabara expressed his disappointment and pain over the alleged snub, stating that it was his right to receive the honor. He revealed that Buhari refused to confer the GCON title on Saraki, while Obasanjo similarly withheld it from him. Wabara believes that their lack of support for the respective governments was the reason behind the denial of this prestigious honor.

"It pains me because it's my right," Wabara said, emphasizing that both he and Saraki fell victim to the same political vendetta. He lamented that despite their contributions to the country, they were denied this recognition due to political differences.

Wabara's allegation has sparked interest and debate, with many calling for clarification and confirmation from the relevant authorities. The GCON title is one of the highest honors in Nigeria, and its conferment is typically a recognition of outstanding service and contributions to the nation.
