"How I Was Told the Gospel of Salvation Will Not Sell in a Country I Went To Preach" – Pastor Kumuyi
Pastor W.F. Kumuyi, the General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, has shared a powerful testimony about his experience preaching in a foreign country in 1978.
Speaking at a recent sermon, he recalled how ministers in that nation initially rejected his message, claiming that the gospel of repentance, restitution, and righteousness would not be accepted.
"One of the ministers openly said, 'This one will not sell here,'" Pastor Kumuyi recounted. "I said, 'What do you mean? Repentance, restitution, righteousness will not sell here?'"
Despite their doubts, Pastor Kumuyi remained steadfast, believing that the Word of God transcends cultural barriers. However, the resistance was strong. He recalled that after his first crusades in the country, he began discipling over 730 new converts. But soon, opposition arose.
"The following week, as I came back for a discipleship program, the number dropped to about 30. The people had been told, 'This fellow is a fanatic in the Bible, and we told him that this thing will not work here.'"
Yet, Pastor Kumuyi’s unwavering faith and commitment to God’s Word bore fruit. Decades later, the Deeper Christian Life Ministry in that country has grown to become the second-largest Deeper Life congregation outside Nigeria.
Reflecting on his journey, he quoted Philippians 3:7-8: "The things that were gain to me, I counted them as loss... that I may win Christ."
His testimony serves as a reminder of the power of persistence in faith. Against all odds, the gospel not only took root in that nation but flourished, proving that God’s Word remains unshakable despite opposition.
