In a recent development, former President Olusegun Obasanjo has clarified that the potential release of Nnamdi Kanu was not part of his discussion with South-East governors in Enugu State. The meeting, held on Tuesday and reported by Vanguard, focused on regional development issues.

Obasanjo and Chief Emeka Anyaoku were invited by the governors to discuss various developmental concerns. Contrary to circulating speculations, the plan to release Kanu by the federal government did not come up during their discussions. A statement from Obasanjo’s Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, detailed the meeting's agenda.

The primary focus of the meeting was on enhancing security and improving infrastructure within the South-East region. Additionally, they discussed economic cooperation and collaboration to complement the national economic development agenda. These topics were the core of their conversation, reflecting a strategic approach to regional growth.

Obasanjo emphasized that the meeting was organized at his and Anyaoku’s invitation before the governors' summit commenced. He categorically stated that the issue of Nnamdi Kanu was not included in the agenda and was not discussed in his presence, addressing any circulating misinformation.

The comments from the former President come amidst ongoing public interest and debate surrounding Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), who remains detained by the federal government. This has been a significant topic within the public domain, prompting various speculations.
