According the report from ChannelsTV, Dapo Abiodun, the governor of Ogun State, has expressed concern over the unfair criticisms directed at Nigerian governors by the public.

Speaking during an interview with Channels Television, Abiodun addressed the challenges governors face in managing their states effectively.

Recently elected as the chairman of the Southern Governors Forum, Abiodun emphasized the difficulties governors encounter while fulfilling their responsibilities.

He remarked, "It's unfortunate that in Nigeria today, governors, who have been entrusted with the task of overseeing their states and providing leadership, ensuring peace and security, and promoting investment, are being blamed for everything and anything."

Addressing the issue of local government administration, Abiodun highlighted the constitutional constraints that limit governors' authority. "These are constitutional issues that need to be understood and respected. We are a country that recognizes the federal and state levels of administration, and the roles of local governments," he stated.

Using Rivers State as an example, Abiodun explained that state Houses of Assembly have the constitutional power to pass laws regarding the tenure of local government chairmen and executives.

He said, "When a tenure has expired, it should be acknowledged. It is not within the governor's power to extend it. Doing so would set a dangerous precedent and undermine the democratic process."

Abiodun concluded by reiterating the collective stance of the governors, emphasizing the importance of respecting constitutional provisions to maintain democratic integrity in Nigeria.
