According to Vanguard, The Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa, has refuted reports that he expelled a journalist from a press briefing at the Assembly complex in Umuahia. Enyimba FM had alleged that the Speaker directed the removal of its staff, Kingsley Chibuike, from the briefing.

Emeruwa described the report as false and unfounded, aimed at creating discord between his office and journalists in the state. He emphasized his friendship with the media and personal relationships with many journalists, who have direct access to him.

The Speaker explained that he had invited journalists to a press briefing to inform them about the setting up of the Abia State House of Assembly Service Commission and other important matters. He clarified that he did not expel any journalist from the briefing or restrict questions on any issue.

Emeruwa urged the public to disregard the report, stating that it is meant to create disaffection between his office and journalists in the state. He reiterated his appreciation for the constitutional role of the media in a democracy and his willingness to engage with journalists.
