Former Presidential Aide to Muhammadu Buhari and ex-Head of Special Presidential Investigations, Chief Okoi Obono Obla recently appeared on the "Mic On Podcast" where he addressed several significant issues.

One of the key topics he discussed was the controversy surrounding stamp duties in Nigerian banks. He mentioned that an NGO in the banking sector had petitioned about the non-remittance of over 38 trillion Naira collected over the years from stamp duties.

This petition implicated the former acting Governor of the Central Bank who, according to Obla, was appointed shortly after as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank.

Obla recounted his actions, stating, "So I wrote a memo informing President Muhammadu Buhari that how can you appoint somebody who we are investigating as Deputy Governor."

He further explained that he had given these memos to the President's ADC, who held onto them for a month before informing Obla that the case was too sensitive for him to handle directly.

Expressing disappointment, Obla recalled his hope that the President would support his efforts amid the pressures he faced. "I thought I have found somebody who could help me because I know I was in trouble," he remarked, highlighting the challenges and lack of support he perceived during his tenure.

The podcast episode, shared on Instagram, sparked widespread public reaction due to the revelations made by Obla. His statements shed light on internal governance issues and the complexities surrounding regulatory oversight within Nigeria's financial sector.
