Prominent human rights lawyer Chidi Odinkalu has taken to social media to express his discontent with a recent ruling by Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
In a tweet on his official X handle, formerly known as Twitter, Odinkalu remarked, "Iyang Ekwo, that judge who was recently disciplined by National Judicial Council has struck again with a bespoke transaction..."
The controversy centers on Justice Ekwo's decision to invalidate the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primary election, which had declared Asue Ighodalo as its governorship candidate. The election, held on February 22, 2024, was annulled based on the exclusion of 378 delegates who were reportedly supposed to participate in the voting process.
The ruling has stirred debate, with supporters of the PDP and Ighodalo expressing disappointment and concern over the legal and political implications. Channels Television reported that the exclusion of these delegates was deemed unlawful by the court, leading to the invalidation of the entire primary election process.
