Manchester United are preparing for their upcoming clash against Burnley with hopes of having Mason Mount back in the lineup after injury sidelined him for a while, according to Evening Standard.

However, the team is still struggling with some defensive absences, leaving Erik ten Hag with selection dilemma.

In their recent match against Sheffield United, Manchester United secured a narrow victory with goals from Bruno Fernandes, including one from the penalty spot.

Despite the win, concerns lingered over the team's defensive frailties due to the absence of key defenders such as Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans, Raphael Varane, and Willy Kambwala, all of whom are still on the sidelines due to injuries.

With these defensive players unavailable, the onus falls on Casemiro to partner with Harry Maguire in the heart of Manchester United's defense.

One notable absence in recent matches has been Marcus Rashford, who was absent from the squad against Sheffield United following his substitution in the previous game against Coventry City.

Ten Hag gave an update regarding Rashford's immediate return, indicating that the forward's recovery might take a bit longer.

Despite these challenges, there is hope for Manchester United with Mason Mount's expected return to action.

When questioned about potential returning players, Ten Hag said, "No, not yet. We have to be patient for it. For coming back for the game against Burnley, I don't expect [them].

Mason Mount, he will return, I think," he said.
