Aloy Ejimakor, the lead counsel for Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), recently discussed his client's ongoing detention and other related matters in an interview with The SUN.

When questioned about claims that Kanu had requested a political solution from the Federal Government, Ejimakor provided clarification on the matter. He explained that Nnamdi Kanu had never made such a request. In fact, during the court proceedings, Kanu did not speak at all, unlike his previous appearances.

In his words, he said: "What happened in court on June 19, 2024, was that the Judge wanted to find out if the parties, that is, the Nigerian government and Nnamdi Kanu, had considered such an option."

Ejimakor recounted that the Judge first directed the question to him. In response, he truthfully stated that there had been a brief discussion on the matter between himself and the prosecutor, Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN). Ejimakor elaborated that during one of the prior hearings, they had a short conversation in court regarding the possibility of a political solution. Awomolo, the Senior Advocate of Nigeria, confirmed that this brief exchange had indeed taken place.

Ejimakor emphasized that while there had been some discussion, it was not initiated by Kanu, nor had he explicitly asked for it. The brief discussion between the defense and prosecution was merely an exploration of potential avenues for resolving the case, not a formal request from Kanu for a political solution.
