APC Pledges to Secure Edo State and Maintain Ondo State in Upcoming Elections
The All Progressives Congress has made a bold declaration to secure victory in the upcoming governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states.
The Peoples Democratic Party has also expressed its determination to emerge victorious in the polls.
The Independent National Electoral Commission has set the dates for the governorship elections in Edo State on September 21, 2024, and in Ondo State on November 16, 2024.
The PDP will be presenting Asue Ighodalo as its candidate for Edo State and former deputy governor, Agboola Ajayi, for Ondo State.
On the other hand, the APC will rally behind Senator Monday Okpebholo for Edo State, and the incumbent governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, will be the party’s candidate in Ondo State.
Speaking to The PUNCH, the APC’s Director of Publicity, Bala Ibrahim, expressed confidence in the party's ability to recapture Edo State and maintain its stronghold in Ondo State.
Ibrahim highlighted the APC's history of overturning the PDP's dominance at the national level in 2015, emphasizing that it would not be challenging to replicate this success at the state and local levels.
He reiterated, “The PDP once boasted about prolonged power and dominance in Nigerian politics, but the APC proved them wrong by taking power away from them in 2015, despite their claims.”
Ibrahim emphasized that the APC's influence and support base have continued to grow, while the PDP's control over states and relevance to the electorate have diminished.
