According to A News report by Independent Nigeria, Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed claims by the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) that the ongoing Emirship tussle in the state will harm President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's re-election bid in 2027. Instead, the APC believes that the NNPP will face electoral challenges in Kano State due to its internal discord and leadership crisis.

According to Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, the APC's state chairman, the party is now more unified and popular than ever, and is poised to increase its support in the next presidential election in Kano State. He attributed this confidence to the failures of the current administration in the state.

Abbas criticized the NNPP's national leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, for his poor electoral performance in the 2023 presidential election, where he garnered only 6.23% of the overall votes, with the majority coming from Kano State. He also noted that Kwankwaso's support outside Kano was minimal, and that his performance in other parts of Nigeria was negligible.

The APC chairman contrasted Kwankwaso's performance with that of Peter Obi of the Labour Party, who managed to outperform Kwankwaso in several northern states. He said that this demonstrates the NNPP's limited reach beyond Kano State.

Abbas described the NNPP's claims as a sign of frustration within the party, and highlighted the internal discord and leadership crisis within the NNPP as evidence of its declining influence and effectiveness. He concluded that the APC is confident of its chances in Kano State, and that the NNPP will face electoral challenges in the state come 2027.
