According to the report from the Sun, the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu recalled raising the issue of the Igbo people's marginalization by the Federal Government during a Southern and Middle Belt leaders' forum meeting, where other attendees expressed solidarity and sympathy for the Igbo.

He mentioned a communique from one of these meetings that called for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, citing his continued detention as a source of unrest in the Southeast.

Following the 2023 general election, he noted a worsening situation, particularly after Peter Obi's victories in Lagos, Abuja, and other states.

He highlighted a meeting held by a group who vowed to cripple the Igbo and hinder their success in both business and politics, expressing concern about the targeted efforts to undermine the Igbo people.

He said, "I had at one of our meetings of the Southern and Middle Belt leaders’ forum brought up the problems of obvious marginalisation of my people by the Federal Government and the forum expressed their sympathy to the Igbo. I remember vividly a communique was issued at one of these meetings calling for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu whose continued detention is causing problems in the Southeast. After the 2023 general election, we experienced the worst situation after Peter Obi won in Lagos, Abuja and some other states; a group of people held a meeting and boasted that they will cripple Igbo and make sure they don’t succeed in business and politics."
