Ohanaeze youths urge Tinubu to intervene in Rivers political crisis
In a bid to restore order and stability in Rivers State, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youths have implored President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the political crisis plaguing the state.
The group, in a statement released on Thursday, urged the President to use his good office to prevail on the Minister for Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and his supporters to desist from disrupting government activities.
According to Mazi Chika Art Adiele, spokesperson for Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youths, the persistent disruption of governance has far-reaching consequences on the state's economy and must be addressed urgently.
"We are deeply concerned about the effects of this crisis on the people of Rivers State and the economy as a whole," Adiele said when interviewed by The Guardian.
The group stressed that there can only be one governor at a time in a state, as mandated by the constitution, and lamented that some individuals are attempting to sabotage the administration of Governor Siminialayi Fubara. "It is unfortunate that some people are trying to play God in the affairs of men," Adiele stated.
The youths drew attention to an Igbo adage that cautions that if an oracle misbehaves, it will be reminded that it was carved out of wood. "In like manner, we urge President Tinubu to remind those responsible for this chaos that they were elected to serve the people, not disrupt governance," Adiele added.
The group urged the President to wade into the crisis and de-escalate the tension in Rivers State.
They emphasized that Governor Fubara was elected for a four-year term and has a constitutional right to seek re-election if he so desires, just like the outgone chairmen. It is hoped that President Tinubu's intervention will bring peace and stability back to Rivers State.
