UK poll: Sunak apologises to Britons, to step down as PM

Rishi Sunak on Friday apologised to the public after his Conservatives were trounced by Labour in the United Kingdom general election, and said he would step down as party leader.

The 44-year-old former financier gambled on going to the country six months before he had to, hoping that better economic data would swing public support back towards the Tories.

But Thursday’s vote indicated that Britons wanted to send a clear message to the party by kicking them out of power after 14 years of economic hardships, Brexit upheaval and Tory.

Appeal court verdict: Pro-Fubara Assembly heads to Supreme court

The Victor Oko-Jumbo, led Rivers State House of Assembly, loyal to governor Siminalayi Fubara, has said it has filed an appeal at the Supreme Court to challenge the judgement of the Appeal Court delivered on Wednesday in Abuja.

Oko-Jumbo, said this in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Friday by the factional Clerk of the House, Dr G. M. Gillis-West, and sent to newsmen.

The factional Speaker said the Assembly strongly believes that the Court of Appeal was in error when it held that the Rivers State High Court lacked the Jurisdiction to hear and determine SUIT NO. PHC/1512/CS/2024″.

Oko-Jumbo declared that he remains the Speaker of the state legislature because there cannot be two Houses of Assembly in the state.

Corruption must be tackled for economy to grow -EFCC boss

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ola Olukoyede, has said Nigerian youths are getting deeply involved in all manner of cybercrimes.

He said this was harmful to their future and would tarnish the country’s image, adding that the economy can only grow if corruption is tackled.

The EFCC boss had on Thursday stated that the country lost over $500m to the activities of internet fraudsters.

He also added that several international companies had to shut down their Nigerian operations following massive theft of their finances through local wire fraud.

Alleged Invasion: Court adjourns case against military, CDS, others, awards N50,000 fine

The Federal High Court, sitting in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, on Thursday, awarded a cost of N50,000 against the Nigerian Army and the Chief of Defence Staff in the ongoing fundamental rights case against the Nigerian Army, the Chief of Army Staff, the Chief of Defence Staff and the Attorney General of the Federation as Respondents by a Niger Delta Activist and Lawyer, Festus Daumiebi Sunday.

Recall, that DAILY POST, recently reported that Igbomotoru 1 & 2 communities in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, were invaded by the military in search of the hoodlums responsible for the killing of 17 soldiers in Okuama community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.

The Applicant, Festus Daumiebi Sunday, whose country home is Igbomotoru I community, approached the court for alleged invasion and destruction of properties worth hundreds of millions of Naira.
