In a recent interview with The Sun, Pa Edwin Clark, renowned elder statesman and leader of the Southern and Middle-Belt Leaders Forum (SMBLF), passionately advocated for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Clark emphasized that Kanu's detention is a misapplication of the law, targeting him solely because of his Igbo heritage.

Clark questioned the justification for Kanu's continued detention, 50 years after the civil war. He emphasized that the law should not be used to oppress and silence those protesting injustice.

Instead, Clark urged the government to address the underlying grievances driving the agitation.

The SMBLF leader's words resonate with many Nigerians who seek a more inclusive and equitable society. By calling for Kanu's release, Clark reinforces the importance of peaceful resolution and dialogue in addressing the country's challenges.

In his own words, “So when people here just move around and so on, do you know what is called a revolution? When revolution comes, will they stand? So it is a misapplication of the law on people who are protesting injustice and oppression. That is why we said Kanu should be released except you are holding him because he belongs to the Igbo tribe. Because the war has been over for about 50 years now, why detain Kanu? It’s unfair. He should be free.“
