Former Presidential Aide, Okoi Obono-Obla, has accused President Muhammadu Buhari of inaction regarding allegations of $69 billion in stolen oil proceeds held in a U.S. bank account. Obono-Obla, who served as the Chairman of the Special Presidential Investigation Panel on the Recovery of Public Property, claims that despite being informed about the massive sum, President Buhari has not taken any substantial steps to recover the funds.

In a statement released on Sunday, Obono-Obla criticized the administration's lack of commitment to addressing corruption and recovering looted assets. He emphasized that the alleged stolen funds represent a significant loss to Nigeria, which could have been used to address pressing economic and social issues.

Obono-Obla also highlighted the need for a more robust and transparent approach to fighting corruption, urging the government to act decisively and pursue all legal avenues to reclaim the stolen wealth. He lamented that the continued inaction undermines the administration’s anti-corruption stance and erodes public trust in the government’s commitment to accountability.

The Presidency has yet to respond to Obono-Obla's accusations, leaving many Nigerians awaiting further clarification on the matter.
