Yahaya Bello: I told him he would be allowed to use my private gate to give him a cover–Olukoyede

According to the report from the Punch, the chairman of the Economic Financial Crimes Commission, Ola Olukoyede describes an incident where he invited the former governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello to clear himself of a case, but Bello refused, citing potential media exposure as a reason. He says Bello declined to appear, insisting that investigators visit his village instead.

He insists that his actions have been lawful and that he's treating everyone fairly, including two former governors who have been granted bail after being arraigned. He implies that Bello's resistance to cooperate is suspicious and raises questions about his alleged guilt.

He said, "I called Yahaya Bello, as a serving governor, to come to my office to clear himself. I shouldn’t have done that. But he said because a certain senator had planted over 100 journalists in my office, he would not come. I told him that he would be allowed to use my private gate to give him a cover, but he said my men should come to his village to interrogate him.

Rather, we have obeyed the law. I inherited the case, and I didn’t create it. Why has he not submitted himself to the law? I have arraigned two past governors who have been granted bail now—Willie Obiano and Abdulfatah Ahmed."
