PSC: Tinubu Submits Names Of Nominees To Senate

President Bola Tinubu has officially submitted the names of three candidates to the Senate for consideration and confirmation as the new Chairman, Secretary, and member of the Police Service Commission (PSC).

This submission coincided with the commencement of a fresh legislative session on Thursday.

According to a report by Channels Television, the individuals nominated for these critical roles include Retired Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Hashim Argungu, who has been proposed for the position of Chairman.

Chief Onyema Uche has been put forward for the role of Secretary, and Retired DIG Taiwo Lakanu has been nominated as a member of the PSC.

This move follows President Tinubu’s recent decision to dismiss the former Chairman of the commission, Retired Inspector General of Police Solomon Arase, earlier this month.

This leadership change comes amidst ongoing tensions between the PSC and the current Inspector-General of the Nigerian Police Force, Kayode Egbetokun.

The PSC has accused Egbetokun of overstepping his boundaries, particularly in relation to the recruitment of constables into the police service.

These accusations have prompted the PSC to call on President Tinubu to remove Egbetokun from his position.
