Former Azimio leader Raila Odinga's chief agent, Saitabao Ole Kanchory, has filed a petition in the High Court against the Attorney General, Inspector General, Cabinet Secretary for Interior, and two others over alleged police brutalities and other violations. The petition, submitted on June 25, 2024, by Kanchory & Company Advocates, references serious accusations, including extrajudicial killings, illegal arrests, abductions, intimidation, and harassment.

Kanchory, acting on his behalf and representing Kenya's Generation Z and the public, highlights numerous constitutional violations. These include breaches of Articles 2, 3, 4, 10, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 29, 33, 37, 49, 50, 51, 159, 165, 243, 244, 245, and 259. The petition emphasizes the excessive and violent measures used against peaceful protesters, especially in response to demonstrations against the Finance Bill, 2024.

The application requests urgent measures to prohibit the use of water cannons, tear gas, live ammunition, and other crude weapons by the police. Furthermore, it seeks to prevent any form of violence, extrajudicial killings, illegal detentions, and inhumane treatment of protesters. The case brings to light significant concerns about the conduct of law enforcement in Kenya, demanding immediate judicial intervention and oversight.
