The United Kingdom chapter of the Labour Party has endorsed Olumide Akpata as its candidate for the upcoming Edo state governorship election on September 21.
According to a report by Punch, Egbe Omorodion, the UK LP chairman and a former governorship contender, made this announcement during a virtual meeting on Sunday.
Omorodion praised Akpata's qualifications, highlighting his tenure as the president of the Nigeria Bar Association, and questioned the credentials of the other candidates in the race.
As a former aspirant himself, Omorodion expressed his full support for Akpata and assured that the UK LP members would back their candidate through various means.
He emphasized the party's readiness for the election, indicating that party agents would be deployed to all polling units to prevent any rigging attempts by other parties.
Omorodion also stressed the importance of ensuring the integrity of the election results, stating that the Labour Party would not tolerate any compromises in the collation and announcement of authentic results.
Additionally, Omorodion remarked that the challenges faced by the Labour Party in the state are now behind them.
He dismissed the legitimacy of the caretaker committee established by the party's national president, Julius Abure, suggesting that it would not be upheld.
