Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II, the reinstated Emir of Kano, has spoken about his decision not to contest his removal from the position. In an interview with The Sun, Sanusi cited concerns about the challenges he would face under a governor who openly opposed him.

Sanusi, a former Central Bank Governor of Nigeria and influential in Nigerian politics and religion, was removed as Emir of Kano in 2020, sparking national controversy. Despite this, Sanusi has decided to focus on his personal well-being and professional interests beyond politics.

In Sanusi's words, he said, "You’re under a governor. The law gives him the power to be on top of you. He has made it clear he does not like me. If I come, he would just make my life miserable. It was going to be one story after the other. One fake story, one social media insult after another, and in my position, I won’t be able to respond."
