PDP:People I See As Elders, Instead Of Speaking Up, They Fear Like Children. Why?—Ikenga Ugochinyere

Honourable Ikenga Ugochinyere, a member of the House of Representatives, has voiced his frustration and sorrow over the silence of senior members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) when faced with injustices.

Speaking in an interview on AIT, Ugochinyere expressed his disappointment that individuals he regards as elders are not speaking out against wrongdoing but are instead showing fear akin to that of children.

Ugochinyere specifically pointed out the situation involving the PDP national chairman, Umar Damagun.

According to Ugochinyere, Damagun should not hold the chairman position because the party's constitution clearly stipulates that the role belongs to the North Central Zone.

Despite this, Damagun has been serving as acting chairman for almost a year, a situation that Ugochinyere finds highly problematic.

The lawmaker lamented that the elder statesmen within the PDP, whom he once respected for their authority and courage, are failing to address these issues.

He argued that their silence is enabling injustices within the party, and he criticised them for not using their positions to speak truth to power.

Highlighting the importance of adherence to the party's constitution, Ugochinyere stressed that the rightful allocation of positions is crucial for maintaining internal democracy and fairness.

He accused Damagun of overstaying in a role that should have been occupied by a representative from the North Central Zone, according to the party's guidelines.

Ugochinyere said, "You have a national chairman that ought not to be in office, and you know what pains me?

"People I see as elders, instead of speaking up, at times, they fear like children. Why?

"At your level, can't you speak truth and say stop this nonsense? First of all, Damagun is not supposed to be in office.

"The constitution is very clear, and since then, for almost a year and, you have been acting as chairman. You know that this position belongs to North Central; what is wrong with you?"
