According to Punch Newspaper, The All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared its intention to make significant strides in the upcoming 2027 general elections by aiming to secure victories in Abia and Enugu States. This announcement was made during a South-East stakeholders meeting held in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, attended by key figures from the party's regional leadership. Ijeoma Arodiogu, the South-East Zone National Vice Chairman of APC, emphasized the party's growing influence in the region and expressed confidence in their prospects for electoral success.
Arodiogu highlighted strategic developments, including ongoing discussions with four House of Representatives members from the Labour Party in Enugu State who are poised to defect to the APC. Moreover, notable political figures, such as former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Chinedu Orji, have reportedly joined the APC ranks, signaling a strengthening of the party's support base in the state.
Looking ahead to the 2027 presidential election, Arodiogu outlined the APC's ambitious goal of securing 90% of the South-East votes. He dismissed allegations propagated by certain groups, notably those linked to Nnamdi Kanu, suggesting that the APC harbors intentions to Islamize the region or the country, labeling such claims as baseless propaganda.
In his address, Arodiogu sought to dispel negative perceptions surrounding the APC, urging the public to reject narratives portraying the party negatively. He underscored the APC's commitment to inclusive governance and economic development, aiming to win over voters with promises of accountable leadership and tangible progress.
The APC's strategic maneuvers and outreach efforts in Abia and Enugu States underscore its determination to expand its political footprint in the South-East region ahead of the 2027 elections.
