This is even as the National Working Committee (NWC) of PDP will be presenting Certificate of Return to him on Tuesday, following the successful completion of the governorship primary election.

Atiku noted that Agboola’s ticket stands PDP in good stead to win Ondo governorship election.

Atiku, in a statement by his Media Adviser, Paul Ibe said that the decision of the stakeholders of the PDP to elect Ajayi to fly the flag of the party is a wise decision of the PDP to win the election and add Ondo to the states controlled by the party.

“I have utmost confidence in the candidature of Chief Agboola Ajayi to deliver Ondo State to the PDP,” he said.

Lawyers have expressed concerns over the dual role of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Olukayode Ariwoola, who doubles as both the chairman of the National Judicial Commission and the Federal Judicial Service Commission.

The lawyers condemned the overbearing powers of the CJN, where the NJC is automatically headed by the CJN.

The NJC is a body responsible for disciplining judicial officials found wanting in conduct while FJSC is the body that initially reviews proposals or lists of candidates by appointment into judicial office.

Also, the justice sector stakeholders who graced the National Justice Summit 2024 convened by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, (SAN), held on Wednesday and Thursday, at the National Judicial Institute in Abuja, reached resolutions to present the ongoing constitution review process to the National Assembly for inclusion.

Addressing the media on Friday in Abuja, on the outcome of the summit, which was attended by judges and lawyers, Dr Babatunde Ajibade, (SAN) said the summit came out with some far-reaching measures on the nation’s justice reform.

Yahaya Bello: EFCC’s Actions Best Described As Trial By Mischief – Constitutional Lawyer

LAGOS – A Constitutional Lawyer, Ewa Okpo, has described the actions of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in the ongoing face-off with the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, as “trial by mischief”.

In an interview on Arise TV morning show on Saturday, the legal practitioner specifically stated that it was wrong, in the first instance, for the EFCC to attempt to arrest the former Governor when it was aware of a subsisting restraining order, which had not been vacated as of the time of its action.

He said the whole “drama” was centred around an abuse of court process.

“I think that it is a rather unfortunate narrative for Nigeria, and to summarize the whole of this drama in legal terms would be to just say, look, this is an abuse of the court process.

“Why do I say abuse of court process? To successfully prosecute anybody in Nigeria, in this case, the EFCC is prosecuting Yahaya Bello; there are six categories of laws that you must follow.

“The ground law being the Constitution, administration of Criminal Justice Act, the law that empowers the prosecutor, in this case, EFCC Act; the law that defines the offence and the punishment, in this case, Money Laundering Act; and then the law of the courts with jurisdiction.

”In this case, that would be the Federal High Court Act, Practice Directive and the rest of it that guide proceedings at the Federal High Court, and, of course, the Evidence Act and other ancillary legislations.
