Sir Keir Starmer has addressed the nation for the first time as Prime Minister, assuring that his government will serve the people.

Sir Keir entered Downing Street amidst a crowd of cheering Labour supporters waving Union, Welsh, and Scottish flags.

He began his address by acknowledging his predecessor, Rishi Sunak, commending him for his achievement as the first British Asian Prime Minister and recognizing the “extra effort” required for such a milestone.

“The country has voted decisively for change, for national renewal and the return of politics to public service,” Sir Keir declared.

He spoke about the public’s disengagement with politics, citing the growing gap between the sacrifices made by people and the service they receive from politicians.

Protest: EFCC Beefs Up Security At Lagos Office

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Friday, beefed up security at its Lagos office in response to a proposed protest.

Vanguard reports that the Commission had raised the alarm about some groups planning a series of protests against its activities.

It also had on Thursday through its Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale said that a former governor and two former ministers are behind the protests being organised against the EFCC.

Anambra community seeks Soludo’s help to check land grabbing

Indigenes of Ifite Nteje community in the Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State have appealed to the state governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, to implement the report of the White Paper of the panel of inquiry set up by the state government to investigate land grabbing activities that had allegedly caused loss of lives and destruction of properties in the community.

The community, during a protest on Friday also urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to make public the report of the investigation the state government mandated it to carry out on the sale of their lands by some individuals who claimed to be Land Management Committee in the community.

The protesters carried placards with various inscriptions such as “No more land grabbing of Ifite Nteje land,” “Governor Soludo, come to our rescue, implement the report of the Panel of Inquiry white paper,” and “EFCC, make public the report of you investigations on Ifite Nteji fraudulent land sales,” among other inscriptions.

British-Nigerian Sandie Okoro Appointed University Of Birmingham First Female Chancellor

The University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom has announced the appointment of British-Nigerian Sandie Okoro as its first female Chancellor.

Okoro was described by the school as one of the country’s preeminent lawyers and equality rights champion.

A statement by the school said, “Sandie Okoro OBE brings a remarkable record of accolades recognising her contribution to diversity, equality and female rights, and is currently Group General Counsel of Standard Chartered where she leads the Bank’s Legal, Group Corporate Secretariat and Shared Investigative Services functions.”
