Appeal Court Stops Yahaya Bello's Contempt Proceedings Against EFCC

The Court of Appeal, Abuja division on Friday, issued an order stopping the contempt suit filed by the immediate past governor of Kogi State, Mr Yahaya Bello, against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Recall that Bello had filed a fundamental human rights suit against the EFCC to protect himself from being arrested and detained.

Justice Isa Abdullahi Jamil of the Kogi State High Court delivered a ruling on February 9, where he issued an interim order restraining the EFCC from arresting, detaining, persecuting, or prosecuting Bello pending the determination of the suit.

FMC Keffi Sacks 2 Staffs

The Management of the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Keffi, has sacked two of its staff and suspended others over job racketeering.

The Chief Medical Director, CMD, of the hospital, Dr Yahaya Adamu, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen on Friday in Keffi.

He said when the allegation was reported to the management, it immediately constituted a committee to investigate the matter, adding that those found wanting were handed over to its Disciplinary Committee on Senior Staff Affairs for further action.


We'll Review Laws Restricting Press Freedom- Rep

The House of Representatives has said it will engage the media in reviewing laws and practices that restrict press freedom in the country.

The review will address issues that affect the ability of the media to carry out its constitutional role effectively.

The Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Akintunde Rotimi, stated this in his message to celebrate the 2024 World Press Freedom Day.


NDDC Promises To Assist Victims

The Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, has assured that it would provide necessary assistance to victims of the recent tanker explosion at Eleme, Rivers State.

The Representative of Rivers State of the NDDC Board, Tony Okocha gave the assurance on behalf of the Commission during a media briefing in Port Harcourt.

He sympathized with the victims of the incident, which resulted in the loss of lives and property worth billions of naira, and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured.


Niger Police Arrest Four Ex-Convicts For Armed Robbery

The Niger State Police Command has arrested four ex-convicts after they conspired and robbed a Minna residence of valuables worth millions of naira.

The suspects, Yahaya Mohammed, Ayuba Simon, Menasse Makama and Nuhu Azuka; confessed to their crimes during interrogation.

The command’s spokesman, Wasiu Abiodun made this known on Friday in a statement in which he said the suspects were arrested following a complaint received from a concerned resident.
