Sombre mood engulfed a Catholic Church in Nairobi today as Parents, friends and relatives gathered to pay their last tribute to Rex Kanyike Masai, who was shot dead by police during anti-goverment protests.
Speaking at the requiem mass also attended by several Gen Zs, Rex mother broke down to tears as she paid her last tribute to her son.
The mother also revealed how she learnt that her son had been shot during the anti-goverment protests.
She thanked everyone who had gathered at the church to help them pay their last tribute to Rex, adding that it was difficult to handle the passing on of her first born child.
"Thank you everyone who has come here to mourn with us...," she said before breaking down into tears.
Rex's mother revealed that it was sad that his son did not bid her goodbye before breathing his last breath. She revealed that she did not also receive a phone call from his son during the fateful day.
It is at this point that the mother also revealed that she learnt via a phone call that her son had been shot during the protests.
"Rex, here you are teaching me how to live without you. You left me without a word, nothing but only a phone call, finding you lifeless," the mother emotionally said.
She revealed that after the phone call, she found the body of Rex lying lifeless, with blood oozing from his gunshot wounds. The mother said that it is the most painful she has ever experienced in her entire lifetime.
"May the lord teach me how to even delete your number from my phone. I don't know how to delete your number," the emotional mother said.
