EFCC Withdraws Appeal Against Order Restraining Yahaya Bello's Arrest

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has filed a notice of withdrawal to discontinue an appeal against an order of a Kogi High Court restraining it from arresting the immediate past governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello.
In the notice filed on April 22, the EFCC said the withdrawal is predicated on the fact that events have overtaken the appeal.
The commission also admits that the appeal was filed out of the time allowed by law.

Falana Writes AGF, demands End To Human Rights Violations In Okuama

In a letter addressed to Lateef Fagbemi, the Honourable Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister for Justice, human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, SAN has called for an immediate end to what he describes as “egregious violations” of the human rights of innocent members of the Okuama community in Delta State.
Falana highlighted several incidents of alleged abuse and injustice in his letter, dated April 24, 2024.
He wrote: “We are disturbed to learn that the people of Okuama in Delta State and Igbomotoru in Bayelsa State have been subjected to horrendous human rights abuse over the action of a gang of criminal elements who killed the 16 soldiers.
Another Pro-Wike Commissioner Resigns From Fubara's Cabinet After Redeployment

Isaac Kamalu, the commissioner for finance, has resigned from the cabinet of Siminalayi Fubara, governor of Rivers.
Kamalu was affected by a minor cabinet reshuffle made by the governor on April 23.
He was moved to the ministry of employment generation and economic empowerment.
Obi Seeks Greater Investments In Water, Education For Poor Nigerians

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, has challenged affluent Nigerians to make greater investments in the provision of water and education for the poor.
Obi made this appeal at a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday.
He said 70 percent of Nigeria’s wealth is in the hands of about 1 percent of citizens noting that if point one cent of the population about 200,000 rich Nigerians can deploy their resources to provide the basic needs of the poor in our midst, the situation will not be as deplorable.
