SSANU, NASU begin nationwide protest Tuesday

The Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities and Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions, have directed their members across the country to mobilise for a nationwide protest.

In a circular directed to all branch chairmen of the two unions and made available to the media in Abuja, on Sunday, the unions said the protest would commence on July 9, 2024, across the state chapters of the federation, and a national protest in Abuja on July 18.

The circular was jointly signed by the General Secretary of NASU and the National President of SSANU, Peters Adeyemi, and Mohammed Ibrahim, respectively.

The unions, said the protest follows the recent breakdown of dialogue between the Joint Action Committee of the two bodies and the Ministers of Education and Labour and Employment.

Bauchi declares Monday work-free day

The Bauchi State Government, has declared Monday, July 8, 2024 as a work-free day to commemorate Al-Muharram, the first day of the Islamic calendar.

This was contained in a statement signed on Sunday, by the governor’s media aide, Muktar Gidado, explaining that “the gesture underscores the administration’s respect for the religious and cultural values of our Muslim community, offering an opportunity for reflection, prayer, and celebration.”

It further stated that, “The Bauchi State Government acknowledges the importance of Al-Muharram as a time of renewal and spiritual growth for our Muslim brothers and sisters.”

It stated that Governor Bala Mohammed, equally extends his best wishes to all citizens observing this important day, encouraging everyone to engage in activities that promote peace, unity, and understanding within a diverse society.

PDP Congress: We’ll reject injustice in Katsina – Faction

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), in Katsina State says it will not accept any form of injustice in the forthcoming State Congress scheduled for July 27.

Dr Mustapha Inuwa, the former Director-General (D-G) of Atiku Abubakar presidential campaign, stated this during a stakeholders’ meeting in Katsina on Sunday.

According to Inuwa, together with other concerned party stakeholders, they will do everything within the party’s rules to ensure that justice is done.

He assured, “We cannot fold our arms to allow a single person to structure the party with thousands of members in the state.

Ebonyi Govt to set up taskforce on revenue collection

Ebonyi State Government, says it will set up a special taskforce to checkmate illegal revenue collection in the state.

The state governor, Francis Nwifuru, announced this at the Government House Chapel, Abakaliki during a church service.

“We want to constitute a taskforce to get our environment clean, because it is very important to us. Within the week there will be lots of work in our environment.

“Also, we will set up taskforce to checkmate illegal revenue collection.
