Chidi Lloyd, the embattled chairman of Emohua Local Government Area in Rivers State, has voiced his reaction to a recent court ruling. The Court of Appeal in Abuja has overturned a prior directive from the Rivers State High Court.

This directive had hindered Martin Amaewhule from functioning as the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly and had also barred 24 other Assembly members from accessing the legislative complex or performing their legislative duties.

Speaking in an interview on Channels Television's Sunrise Daily, Lloyd expressed his satisfaction with the Court of Appeal's decision.

He stated that with this ruling, there are no longer any obstacles preventing Amaewhule and his fellow Assembly members from resuming their legislative responsibilities.

Lloyd emphasised the importance of this decision for effective governance and legislative progress in Rivers State.

Lloyd conveyed his appreciation for the judiciary's role in upholding justice and ensuring that the legislative process is not hindered by legal constraints.

He highlighted that this decision allows the Assembly members to focus on their primary role of lawmaking, which is crucial for the development and welfare of the people of Rivers State.

Additionally, Lloyd pointed out a critical legal aspect related to the jurisdiction of the state High Court.

He reminded the public and stakeholders that Section 272, sub-section 3, of the Nigerian Constitution, restricts the state High Court from adjudicating matters concerning the defection or tenure of state Assembly members.

This provision, he noted, is vital in maintaining the autonomy and proper functioning of the legislative arm of the government.

Chidi Lloyd claimed that the original High Court order had caused significant disruptions within the Rivers State House of Assembly, hampering legislative activities and creating a vacuum in leadership.

He stated that with the appellate court's ruling, the Assembly members can now resume their duties without legal hindrances, which he believes is a positive development for the state.

Lloyd said, "There is nothing on the way of Martin Amaewhule and his colleagues from continuing to make laws for the good governance of the good people of Rivers State.

"Recall that everybody knows that Section 272 sub-3 acts as a clause that stops the state high court from entertaining issues that relate to the defection or otherwise tenure of members of the state House of Assembly."
