Foreign Minister Israel Katz recently commented on the election victory of reformist Masoud Pezeshkian in Iran’s presidential elections, framing it as a significant setback for the country’s Islamist leadership. Katz emphasized that the outcome of the elections is a powerful signal from the Iranian populace, expressing their desire for change and their opposition to the current Ayatollah regime, according to Times of Israel.

In a statement posted on X (formerly known as Twitter), Katz articulated his interpretation of the election results, stating, “The people of Iran have sent a clear message of demand for change and opposition to the Ayatollah regime through the elections.”

Katz urged the international community to take decisive action in response to this development. He called for the world to officially designate the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization. Additionally, he pressed for global demands to cancel Iran’s nuclear program and to halt the country's support for terrorist organizations. “Now the world must designate the IRGC as a terrorist organization and demand the cancellation of the nuclear program and the cessation of support for terrorist organizations. This is the only chance to realize the change,” Katz asserted.

The foreign minister’s statements underscore a significant geopolitical stance, suggesting that the international community has a crucial role to play in supporting the Iranian people's apparent desire for political and social reform. By advocating for increased pressure on Iran's military and nuclear capabilities, Katz is pushing for a comprehensive strategy aimed at curbing what he perceives as Iran's destabilizing activities in the region.
