8 Injured In Bus Crash On Abuja-Lokoja Road

Eight passengers reportedly sustained injuries in a bus accident that occurred at Yangoji, along the Abuja-Lokoja highway.

The accident happened around 6:04 pm on Wednesday, involving an 18-seater commuter Hiace bus with registration number ABJ 49 XH.

According to a witness, the bus, travelling at high speed from the Lokoja axis, hit a pothole, causing the driver to lose control and crash into a ditch.

Lagos To Regulate Public Bus Operators

The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa, has called for the collaboration of public transport bus operators as the state aims to improve its commuting experience.

Giwa said this in a meeting between the Ministry of Transportation, the Lagos Metropolitan Transport Authority and bus operators on the Bus Reform Initiative programme on Thursday in Lagos.

Giwa said this was in line with the Strategic Transportation Master Plan for the state, adding that the initiative aims to restructure the existing public transport operations in the state.

Audu Ogbeh, a former minister of agriculture, says state governors who establish caretaker committees for LGAs should not receive allocations meant for the third tier of government.

Speaking on Inside Sources, a programme on Channels Television anchored by Laolu Akande, on Friday, Ogbeh said setting up caretaker committees for LGAs is “illegal”.

“Any governor who sets up a caretaker committee should not receive any funds because a caretaker is illegal, supreme court said. Don’t send them cash, deduct their own and keep it,” Ogbeh said.


Supreme Court Frees Soldier On Death Row For Murder 12 Years In Prison

The supreme court has discharged and acquitted Akawu Bala, a sergeant of the Nigerian Army, over an allegation of murder.

Bala, who has been in Kaduna prison since 2012, was sentenced to death for murder by the general court martial of the army.

He was accused of shooting one Isa Mohammed on December 9, 2012, when he was attached to the African Petroleum Station at Sabon Tasha, Kaduna, with an AK47 rifle.
