Only 3 players have been credited with more than 2 expected goals (xG) so far in the 2024 European Championship as per Opta. Interestingly, Kai Havertz is the man on top of the list. How is the Arsenal star doing it?

The 25-year-old footballer has amassed a total xG of 3.7 for Germany in 4 Euro 2024 games. The midfielder, who is being deployed as a striker, began with 0.9 expected in the opening game. He was able to score once as the Germans secured a 5-1 win over Scotland in the match. In the following game, Havertz got credited with 0.2 expected goals from 2 shots. However, both attemltd were saved by Péter Gulácsi of Hungary.

In the final clash of Group A, the Germans were up against Switzerland. This time, the Arsenal guy made 6 attempts with a total xG of 0.6. One of this shot was saved by the Swiss goalie while others were either off target or blocked. During the round of 16, Havertz made a record in the tournament with cumulative expected goals value of 2.0. This is the highest by any player in a single game so far in the tournament. Interestingly, this was not for nothing. He scored one goal in the encounter to give his country a 2-0 win.

The man that comes closest to the Chelsea star is Georges Mikautadze. This Georgian goal poacher has earned an xG value of 2.3 in three games so far in the competition. He is followed by Kylian Mbappé of France. This striker has managed to garner 2.1 expected goals in the tournament. Despite being the pre-tournament favourite for the golden boot, this Frenchman is currently behind Havertz in the race for the top scorer.
