In regards to the much sought-after position of Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), the African Union (AU) broke its quiet today with a forceful statement.

The African Union (AU) announced today, July 7, 2024, that it has prohibited five nations from running as front-runners in the upcoming elections for the position of African Union Commission Chairperson.

Sudan, Niger, Gabon, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Guinea were among the nations that the African Union (AU) listed as being barred from fielding candidates for the position of chairperson of the commission.

The African Union (AU) has hinted that the sanctions it has placed on the aforementioned nations are the reason behind the decision to exclude them from fielding candidates.

Furthermore, indications from the African Union suggest that the commissioners supervising the elections for the African Union Commission Chairperson will come from the vast regions of Southern Africa, Central Africa, and West Africa.
