The Federal Government of Nigeria received 103 of its citizens who were deported from Turkey on Friday.

The deportees were sent back to Nigeria for various migration-related issues, such as expired visas and irregular migration. Some of the deportees alleged that Turkish authorities seized their passports and detained them in camps for months, with some claiming they were pressured to sign deportation documents under threat of prolonged detention.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) were among the government agencies that received the deportees at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

The deportees were given some dignity kits, starter packs and stipends to enable them to travel to their respective places.

The National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) announced the arrival of the deportees.

The NCFRMI is mandated to support all returnees, regardless of their status, including through training programs aimed at reintegration into society.

The Nigerian government has promised to intervene and recover the valuables seized from the deportees.
