President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria has secured a second term as Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), following his re-election during the 65th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government.

The session, held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, reaffirmed Tinubu's leadership within the regional bloc.

According to Channels Television, Tinubu, who ascended to the ECOWAS chairmanship in May 2023, was endorsed for another term amidst discussions centered on regional security and economic cooperation.

His re-election underscores Nigeria's pivotal role in ECOWAS affairs, particularly in addressing pressing issues such as terrorism and cross-border economic challenges.

During the summit, Tinubu emphasized the need for increased financial commitments from member states to bolster the region's capacity to combat terrorism effectively.

His call for enhanced cooperation received notable attention among attending heads of state.

The 65th Ordinary Session also saw deliberations on regional integration and the advancement of collective goals aimed at fostering stability and prosperity across West Africa.
