In a recent statement via his official X account, former Senator Shehu Sani has reacted to the Federal Government’s decision to revoke N870bn worth of highway contracts.

These contracts were awarded to three construction companies: Dantata & Sawoe, MotherCat, and RCC.

The termination was due to non-performance by the companies.

The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, ordered the termination of these contracts.

The affected projects are sections II, III, and IV of the dualisation of the Obajana-Benin Road.

This decision comes as 2,270 road projects across the nation are suffering delays.

Shehu Sani shared his thoughts on the issue, criticizing the contractors for their work habits.

"Nigerian road contractors have a habit of delaying their jobs in order to prompt a review that will jerk up the cost of the project to more billions. With Umahi, they attracted termination instead of review," Shehu Sani wrote.

He noted that with Minister Umahi, these contractors faced termination instead of a cost review.

The Obajana-Benin Road project is a significant infrastructure project aimed at improving transportation in the region.

The delays have been a major concern for both the government and the public.

The termination of the contracts is seen as a strong message to contractors about the importance of timely project completion.

The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, underlined the government’s commitment to ensuring that infrastructure projects are completed on time.

He stated that the termination of the contracts was necessary to prevent further delays and cost overruns.
