The former National Vice Chairman (North-West) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Salihu Lukman, has said that the desperate effort to remove Abdullahi Ganduje as the National Chairman of the party is due to Ganduje's lack of grip on the party's structure in Kano State.

In a statement he issued on Tuesday, Lukman said that since Ganduje emerged as the National Chairman of the party, he has not been to Kano State more than twice.

It should be noted that in the past few weeks, there have been plot by some persons in the party to remove Ganduje as the National Chairman of the APC.

Last week, scores of people had stormed the APC Secretariat in Abuja to demand for his resignation and have the position returned to the North Central zone.

The demonstration came following the bribery allegation that was brought against Ganduje by the Kano State Government and his suspension by a faction of his ward executives.

According to the report by Punch, Lukman said that all this is happening because after Ganduje was made APC National Chairman, he went to Abuja with virtually all the APC leaders in Kano State. He said that was the reason the Kano State Government had the opportunity to inflict that kind of huge political damage to him.

He added, "The reality is that, since the emergence of Dr Ganduje as National Chairman, for about nine months, he has not visited Kano State more than twice. With such reality, and operating as an opposition party, it begs the question about whether he is at all interested in getting APC to win back Kano State.

"If President Asiwaju Tinubu with all his busy schedules could find time to go back to Lagos State on more than five occasions, it is certainly scandalous that Dr Ganduje will use his position as the APC National Chairman as an excuse for political truancy. Being a political truant could only produce electoral failure back in his home state."
