A former Deputy Governor of Rivers State and member of the Rivers State Elders' Council, Sir Gabriel T. B. Toby, has, during an interview on The Morning Show, an Arise Television Programme, found fault in the feud between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike; as he wondered why the two Rivers bigwigs would be at war even though they are not in any contest.

The former Deputy Governor had said, "But this issue of pro-Wike and pro-Fubara, it doesn't make sense to me. What are you pro-Wike for, what are you pro-Fubara for? Are you – is Wike contesting any thing against Fubara in Rivers State? It doesn't make sense. Wike had done his 8 years, he's gone; Okilo did his own, he left; Rufus Ada George did his own; Odili, Amaechi, and Wike; so they've done, they've gone. You don't have pro-Wike, pro-Fubara in a a situation where Fubara is Governor. So what are you creating is confusion. So the Minister is Minister; luckily, he's got another, most of the others just retired."
