S’Court Affirms Dethronement of Lagos Monarch

The Supreme Court has dismissed an appeal by Michael Onakoya challenging his dethronement as the Orijeru of Igbooye land, Epe. The court ruled that the appeal was filed out of time, hence incompetent under the Supreme Court Act. This decision upholds previous rulings by the Lagos High Court and Court of Appeal, affirming Onakoya's removal from his traditional role.

Ododo Congratulates New NPTF Secretary

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State has congratulated Mohammed Sheidu on his appointment as the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund. The governor praised Sheidu's qualifications and expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for choosing a competent Kogite for the role. Sheidu's appointment is seen as part of efforts to enhance security and promote prosperity under the Tinubu Administration. Governor Ododo pledged Kogi State's support for Sheidu's efforts in his new role.

Kano Emirship tussle: Court adjourns hearing to July 4

A Kano State High Court, on Tuesday, adjourned the hearing of an application of the ongoing Kano Emirship tussle case until Thursday, July 4.

The Kano State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Speaker Kano State House of Assembly, and Kano State House of Assembly, through their counsel, Ibrahim Isah-Wangida, filed a motion ex parte on May 27.

The applicants are seeking an order restraining the 15th Emir, Aminu Ado-Bayero, and four other dethroned Emirs of Bichi, Rano, Gaya, and Karaye from parading themselves as traditional rulers.

The respondents are Alhaji Aminu Ado-Bayero, Alhaji Nasiru Ado-Bayero, Bichi Emir; Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar ll, Emir of Karaye; Alhaji Kabiru Muhammad-Inuwa, Emir of Rano; and Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim-Gaya, Emir of Gaya.

3 Rescued As Building Collapses In Abuja

The federal capital territory (FCT) police command says three persons have been rescued from the rubble of a collapsed building in the Garki area of Abuja.

The police gave the name of the building as Unity House on Nkwere street. The collapse occurred on Monday night.

In a statement on Tuesday, Josephine Adeh, the command’s spokesperson, said Benneth Igweh, commissioner of police, mobilised patrol teams to the scene of the incident following a distress call.
