Oba Maduabuchi, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has analyzed the recent court judgment on the Rivers State lawmakers' defection saga, stating that it effectively removes the barrier preventing them from performing their legislative duties.
In an interview with Arise News, Maduabuchi explained that the judgment, delivered by Justice Wale, enables the defectors to carry out their legislative responsibilities. However, he warned that this development may be a precursor to an impending impeachment process against Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Maduabuchi expressed surprise that the impeachment process has not yet commenced, suggesting that it may be a matter of time before the defectors, now empowered by the court judgment, move to oust the Governor.
In his words;
"What stops them from carrying out their Legislative duties had been removed. That is the judgement of Wale. What that means now is that they can carry out Legislative duties. At the end of it all, they'll say, you had decamped, you're not Legislators, you had no power to do anything you have done and It's very easy for us to know where they're going and that is impeaching Siminalayi Fubara. I'm even surprised by now, they haven't started the process"
