The Defense CS Aden Duale has alleged that the Gen Z movement has been commandeered by certain opposition politicians for political gain.

Speaking on Citizen TV on Wednesday night, Duale expressed concern over the shift in the movement's leadership dynamics.

According to Duale, the Gen Z movement began without any formal leaders, aiming to represent a unified, leaderless, and tribeless youth voice.

However, he claimed that leaders from the opposition alliance have since taken control of the movement to further their political agendas.

He specifically named activist Boniface Mwangi, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Jeremiah Kioni, and former Defense CS Eugene Wamalwa as those hijacking the movement.

"You cannot do a regime change through Twitter space. I think the Gen Zs have been hijacked. They said they are tribe-less and leaderless. Are Boniface Mwangi, Babu Owino, Sifuna, Kalonzo Musyoka, Kioni, and Wamalwa Gen Z?" Duale questioned.

Duale warned that social media platforms like Twitter, where the Gen Zs have been organizing, cannot be effectively used to instigate regime change.

His remarks come amidst increasing tensions and frequent protests by the Gen Z movement, which initially focused on addressing youth-related issues without political interference.
