Five individuals belonging to two syndicates were apprehended by men from the Katsina State Police Command on Saturday, February 8, 2024. The syndicates were involved in the theft of armored cables from two LGAs in the state. The five persons who were brought into custody by command personnel are: Habibu Ibrahim, 55, Abdullahi Salisu, 30; Sani Lawai, 25; Lawai Ibrahim, 27; and Lawal Badamasi, 25. This information was announced on the X account of the state police command.

The command stated that Ibrahim, Salisu, and Lawai were members of a three-man syndicate, while Ibrahim and Badamasi were part of a two-man syndicate. The individuals were apprehended after what the command referred to as "sting operations" following a tip regarding the syndicates' activity. Their expertise in stealing armored wires in the state's Mashi and Batagarawa Local Government Areas was discovered.

The investigator wrote: "During the course of the investigation, the suspects confessed to the commission of the offence and further mentioned one Lamma and one Ibrahim, now at large, as their conspirators." Furthermore, the command asserts that a plethora of stolen armored cables and pliers were discovered on them when they were apprehended. Because they reportedly gave the police investigators more useful information, they will likely face charges when the inquiry is complete.
