Gwoza: In Our Culture, It's Difficult to Frisk A woman The Way You'll Frisk A Man - Sadeeq Shehu

In a recent interview with Channels Television, Group Captain Sadeeq Shehu, a security consultant, provided insight into the advantages of suicide bombing from the perspective of Boko Haram members. Shehu highlighted the low cost and ease of l, particularly when carried out by women, as significant benefits for the terrorist group.

According to Shehu, the cultural context in Nigeria also plays a role, as women are often not searched as thoroughly as men due to cultural sensitivities. This makes it easier for female suicide bombers to go undetected.

Shehu's comments come in the wake of the recent suicide bombing in Gwoza, Borno State, which targeted a wedding ceremony, a hospital, and a funeral, resulting in at least 30 deaths and 100 injuries.

In his words;

"For a Boko Haram member, Suicide Bombing carries a lot of advantage. First, its low cost. Secondly, somebody has the advantage of hiding it especially if it's a woman, especially in the North East, it's very easy for a lady to conceal and then culturally even in this country, there's tendency not to search a woman closely. The way you'll frisk a man, based on our culture, sometimes it's difficult to really frisk a woman"
