NNPC speaks up on adjusting petrol price to N488/litre

According to a report from New Telegraph, The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has denied any modifications to fuel prices across regions in the country.

This denial came in response to a viral report claiming that NNPC approved new fuel prices ranging from N488 to N557 per litre.

The false report also alleged that the highest prices would be observed in the North, with fuel costing N557 and N550 per litre.

In a phone conversation with the New Telegraph, Olufemi Soneye, the Chief Corporate Communication Officer of NNPC Ltd., dismissed these claims as "fake news."

He stated, "The price adjustment report is fake news. The company would have promptly communicated to the public if there is any price adjustment.”

The viral rumor suggested that NNPC Ltd. had ordered all oil marketers in Nigeria to adjust the retail price of premium motor spirit (PMS) to between N488 and N557 per litre.

The report claimed that this order was issued on Wednesday, following management's approval of an upward review of NNPC's petrol pump price table for mega, standard, and leased filling stations.

According to the fake report, the new price schedule was to be implemented immediately, with the highest prices set for Maiduguri and Damaturu at N557 per litre, and N550 per litre for the rest of the Northern Zone of Nigeria.
